The curriculum is challenging and we place great importance on the quality of material offered across the curriculum. A broad range of subjects is studied up to Year 9, most pupils then take 9 or 10 subjects at GCSE and 3 or 4 at A Level from a choice of 19.
Games & The Arts
Our main sports are lacrosse, netball and athletics and we also compete in football and cross country. Older pupils have different sport options including attending a local gym. We have a playground and gym on site and use the impressive off-site facilities at Kings House and Barn Elms.
We have 2 productions and 3 concerts each year as well as other events for the performing arts.
The welfare of our pupils is first and foremost and the emotional care of pupils at St James is given particular attention. If a pupil is not at ease emotionally, everything she encounters will be adversely affected.
Our Form Teachers nurture each girl and encourage their full participation in the life of the school. Form Teachers work with Heads of Section which allows for consistency of care and strong support for each pupil’s development. Help is also available to all pupils through the Headmistress, Deputy Heads, School Nurse, Wellbeing Coach, School Chaplain and Prefects.
A Level results are excellent and most leavers go on to a Russell Group University where they pursue a diverse range of courses.
Head Teacher’s Philosophy
St James girls are industrious, open-hearted, courageous and work well together. They achieve the highest academic standards and are also encouraged to develop strength through self-discipline and an ability to live according to an intelligent understanding of what is wise and true. Regular opportunities for stillness and quiet enable pupils to learn to be at ease with themselves, to appreciate the value of being fully present and to develop their ability to concentrate.
St James Senior Girls’ School is an independent day school for girls aged 11-18, based in Kensington Olympia, and accommodating a two-form year group. Our Junior School pupils transfer at Year 7 and we admit a further 20-25 pupils at 11+ from other schools.
We offer an education which nurtures and enriches the physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual development of our pupils. Our happy, united atmosphere provides the ideal environment for every girl to discover her own unique combination of strengths and talents and to ‘be the best she can’.
