Ella Kay, aged 12, celebrated her most significant victory to date, riding Red Alert III.

As well as studying at school, Ella and her horse Red Alert III have had a very busy and successful year. They won the Gold League and the National 128cm Championship at the British Showjumping National Championships earlier in the year.

The competition saw 21 talented riders enter the arena, facing a challenging 1.15m track designed by the renowned Ben Townley. The competition was fierce this year. In the jump off Ella displayed unwavering confidence and exceptional riding skills.

Reflecting on the day, Ella said, ‘I didn’t realise I was going that tight until I did it. Red Alert knows her job so well; she really wants to do it and win as well. It has been an amazing year, a dream come true. Thank you to everyone who has supported me.’

Two other Queen Mary’s pupils, Christina and Nya, also competed at the Horse of the Year Show. Christina came 4th in her 138cm class.

Head at Queen Mary’s School, Carole Cameron, commented: ‘Congratulations to Ella for her monumental win at HOYS. The dedication and hard work that it has taken to win three national titles this year displays skills of a true Queen Mary’s pupil. We are so proud of all three of our HOYS riders. To have such a large representation at this prestigious event is a great achievement for everyone involved. They are excellent role models to the other pupils who ride on the Queen Mary’s Riding Teams and have lessons at the Equestrian Centre.’
