The Hawthorns seeks to develop a love of learning with a curriculum which is broad and balanced. Curiosity about the world is fostered through diverse opportunities in and out of the classroom and through expert teaching.
Games & The Arts
A wonderful programme of sport and extraordinary opportunities in art, music, drama and design and technology mean that every child has the opportunity to be challenged in a variety of areas and thus develop a confidence for life.
The highest levels of pastoral care lie at the heart of The Hawthorns’ community. They provide a nurturing and stimulating environment in which each child feels happy and valued and develops a progressively fuller understanding of themselves and others. Children leave The Hawthorns having had the time, space and caring support to grow into independent, healthy and confident individuals with a clear sense of right and wrong, and of their future place in the world around them.
In 2017, 34 Hawthorns pupils in Year 8 were awarded 29 scholarships.
Head Teacher’s Philosophy
‘Developing the talents of each child is at the heart of our work. Most importantly, children are loved, feel secure and learn from both their mistakes and their endeavours. Laughter and energy abound as boys and girls, teachers and staff make the most of school life.’
The Hawthorns offers an exceptional breadth and vision for each child. The production of quality learning and the development of good character with the skills for life are key to the work of the school.
