Stonyhurst Exhibition To Celebrate 400 Years of Shakespeare’s First Folio

A display will be featured at Stonyhurst College to celebrate 400 years since the publication of Shakespeare’s First Folio. 

The exhibition will delve into the history and stories of around 40 objects from its Museum and Archives.

The centrepiece of the exhibition will be the college’s copy of an original First Folio which will be placed in the Do Room.

Tickets will be open to the public from 7th July, every Friday and Saturday until 17th August.

Only 235 copies of the First Folio still exist, from the estimated 750 copies that were printed in 1623.

Also featured within the exhibition will be a caiman, a South American relative of the alligator. One of which was captured by a Stonyhurst pupil in 1796.

This exhibition will inspire both staff and pupils to start conversations, put on performances and read the writings of Shakespeare. The Folio will be turned frequently so pupils can read through the different plays.
